The Pierce City Senior Center will open for drive-through, curb side lunch only on the following Tuesdays in Oct. 6, 13, 20, and 27. Patrons will drIve through under the front entrance starting from Washington Street. There will be no admittance to the building except essential personnel. They are required to wear a mask and observe social distancing. Serving will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on those days only. Cost of each meal is $4. Menu for Oct. 6 is Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable and dessert.
The Monett Senior Center is providing a hot meal once a week each Wednesday. On Sept. 16 the menu includes beef brisket, mashed potatoes, corn, coconut cream pie, and homemade bread. Suggested contribution $3.50 for age 60 and above. $6 for under those under the age of 60. The center provides frozen meal pick up each week as well. For more information, call 417-235-3285.
Craft a Hat in the Park at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Monett City Park. Plan to meet at the Monett South Park pavilion at the top of the hill beside the Casino. There is a limit of 12 people for this session. Participants must register ahead of time by calling the Monett Branch Library at 417-235-6646. Contact phone number must be provided to library staff in the event of inclement weather and the need to reschedule. If unable to attend, participants are asked to notify the library 24 hours in advance or they will be charged for the supplies. If there are more than 12 people who would like to participate, they will be placed on the waiting list and called if someone cancels. As a courtesy, library staffers did the shopping so that patrons would not have to. Cost of the supplies is $7. This includes the wire hat frame, three spools of Dollar Tree mesh, one black and two more of your choice, a spool of Halloween ribbon, pipe cleaners and some extra ornaments. Crafters are welcome to bring extra items to embellish their hat. Patrons are asked to bring exactly $7 to the park on the crafting day as staffers will not be able to make change.
The City of Purdy will sponsor a city-wide clean-up Oct. 19. This pick up is for City of Purdy residents only. If you are not paying your trash bill through the city, we will not pick your items up. Pick up will begin on the west side of town working east until completion. Items must be stacked neatly at the edge of your property will not be held responsible for causing any ruts on your property with our equipment. Do not put them in ditches or anywhere else where we might get our equipment stuck. Compressors must be removed from all refrigerator type items or they will not be picked up. Items must be out by 8 a.m. on Oct. 19, once we have picked up the items in your neighborhood, we will not make a return trip for any items placed out after that.
Dedication ceremonies for the downtown mural will he held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10. The event will feature local music, food trucks and a free movie, sponsored by the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library. The event is hosted by Monett Main Street.
A fundraising effort is underway to complete a mini-theatre at the Monett Historic Museum, reminiscent of the original Gillioz. Area residents may sponsor one or more seats for a minimum donation of $500 each. The donor’s name will be placed on a placard on the back of the seat. Pierce City will have a city-wide garage sale on Sept. 19.
St. Mary’s Catholic Picnic Dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the church. A chicken or beef dinner with all the fixings will be served. Advance tickets are available at a cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 12 years opt age. Tickets will also be available at the door at a cost of $12 for adults and $7 for children 6 to 12 years of age. Children ages 5 and under eat free. A drawing will also take place. This will be the church’s largest fundraiser for the year, since the annual Picnic was canceled due to COVID-19. Tickets are available at the rectory by calling 417-476-2827.
St. Mary’s Trade Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Pierce City. The event will feature a Crafters Market, Farm Vendors, and Business Exhibitors. Concessions will be available.
