Lady Cubs tennis off to a hot start

The Monett tennis team is off to a roaring start to the 2020 season.

The Lady Cubs open the year with back-to-back wins. On Thursday, Monett topped conference foe Lamar, 5-4.

Results are as follows:

• No. 1 Singles: Meagan Hull (Monett) lost to Alexia Phipps (Lamar), 0-8

• No. 2 Singles: Sofia Semerad (Monett) lost to Avery Bennett (Lamar), 5-8

• No. 3 Singles: Melanie Giselle Hernandez (Monett) beat Leah McDonald (Lamar), 8-4

• No. 4 Singles: Vianey Rodriguez (Monett) beat Molly Bronson (Lamar) 8-2

• No. 5 Singles: Katie Smith (Monett) beat Erica McCaslin (Lamar) 8-1

• No. 6 Singles: Melissa Gomez (Monett) lost to Cora Pittsenbarger (Lamar), 2-8

• No. 1 Doubles: Hull/Semerad (Monett) beat Bennett/McDonald (Nevada), 8-4

• No. 2 Doubles: Hernandez/Rodriguez (Monett) lost to Phipps/Pittsenbarger (Lamar), 2-8

• No. 3 Doubles: Smith/Gomez (Monett) beat Bronson/McCaslin (Lamar), 8-0

On Monday, the Lady Cubs topped Nevada, 6-3. Results are as follows:

• No. 1 Singles: Meagan Hull (Monett) beat Alissa Stutesman (Nevada), 8-3

• No. 2 Singles: Sofia Semerad (Monett) beat Emily Bourassa (Nevada), 9-8 (7-5)

• No. 3 Singles: Melanie Giselle Hernandez (Monett) beat Halley Elkinton (Nevada), 8-2

• No. 4 Singles: Vianey Rodriguez (Monett) beat Caitlyn Roberts (Nevada), 8-4

• No. 5 Singles: Katie Smith (Monett) beat Lara Kimmel (Nevada), 9-7

• No. 6 Singles: Melissa Gomez (Monett) lost to Susannah Kimmel (Nevada), 0-8

• No. 1 Doubles: Hull/Semerad (Monett) beat Stutesman/Bourassa (Nevada), 8-3

• No. 2 Doubles: Hernandez/Rodriguez (Monett) lost to Elkinton/Roberts (Nevada), 5-8

• No. 3 Doubles: Smith/Gomez (Monett) lost to Kimmel/Kimmel (Nevada), 4-8
