Robert ‘Bob’ Jelinek
Robert John (Bob) Jelinek, age 76, of rural Monett, Mo., entered the gates of his heavenly home on the afternoon of August 25, 2020, surrounded by his family at Mercy Hospital of Joplin, Mo.
Bob was born February 21, 1944, in Pueblo, Colo., son of Charles and Esta Marie (West) Jelinek. He was baptized March 5, 1944 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pueblo, Colo. He was raised on a farm near Dwight, Neb. He attended Dwight Assumption School thru 10th grade and moved to Schuyler, Neb., where he graduated from Schuyler Central High School in 1962. Bob joined the U.S. Navy in December 1963, doing basic training in Chicago. After basic, he was based at Treasure Island, San Francisco and served aboard the USS Paul Revere, a troop carrier sailing off the coast of Vietnam. After his time in the Navy, Bob returned to Schuyler and worked for Higgins Milling where they produced dehydrated alfalfa pellets. During this time, God stepped in and had his good friend, Lawrence “Uncle Tio” introduce him to his wife Linda on a blind date.
On February 24, 1968, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, Mo., Bob and Linda Lampe were united in marriage. The marriage was blessed with four loving children; Aaron, Jeremy, Shanna and Gretchen.
Bob was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on June 9, 1968 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Schuyler, Neb. In the summer of 1972, Bob and Linda moved to her family’s farm west of Freistatt, Mo., where he milked cows and farmed with his father-in-law, Edgar. During this time, Bob also was an over the road trucker for 3 years. After his father-in-law retired, Bob and Linda sold the cows and went into the poultry business, farming alongside his son, Jeremy. Bob retired from this after 10 years. After his retirement, Bob enjoyed riding around the countryside on his Kubota talking with his neighbors and checking on the farmland. He will be greatly missed by all who know and love him.
Bob was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 65 of Pierce City, Mo., serving as Department of Missouri Sergeant at Arms in 1982. Bob was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, Mo.
Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda, of the home; brother, Gary Jelinek (Terri) of Columbus, Neb.; sons, Aaron Jelinek (Becky) of Kansas City, Mo., and Jeremy Jelinek (Kim) of rural Pierce City, Mo; daughters, Shanna Jelinek of rural Monett, Mo., and Gretchen Moore (Josh) of rural Monett, Mo.; and seven grandchildren: Sydney, Raelin, Danika, Katie, Charlie, Maddie and Alice and numerous extended family and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Esta; his parents-in-law, Edgar and Verna Lampe, one brother, Fred Jelinek and one brother-in-law, John Lampe.
Funeral services for Mr. Jelinek will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, with Reverend Jake Sletten officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11:00 a.m. Saturday in the church sanctuary. Interment and military honors will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Trinity Lutheran School in care of the funeral home.
