Celebrating the end of summer
Single mom’s group kicks it off at the YMCA
The Caring People celebrated summer on Saturday night with a pool party at the YMCA.
“We had not been able to get together for a while and it was fantastic to see everybody,” said group co-leader India Butler.
The Caring People is a group supporting single mothers and their children throughout the area, including military moms, separated and divorced moms, foster and adoptive moms, even grandmothers – all of whom are raising children.
“The group formed last year and has gotten really close as they have supported each other through the year,” said co-founder Maella Blalock. “Kids splashed and mothers chatted. Snacks and friendships were everywhere.”
The next event for the group will be a kick party on today at the First Methodist Church in Monett. The event is a Sno Cone Social in the parking lot. Moms will receive information on free back-to-school children’s shoes, haircuts and stuffed backpacks.
The Caring People plan to start holding their regular meetings again starting on Sept. 9, at First United Methodist Church every Wednesday. Activities will be available for all school age children and for youth, which gives moms their time. For more information, people may call 417-235-7444.
