Monett lists guidelines for fan attendance this season

The Monett school district released new guidelines for fans wishing to attend its fall sports events, whether in the gym or outside.

“Right now, we will not limit the number of fans we allow into our facilities,” said Daryl Bradley, athletic director. “However, that can change at any moment. We are working close with health officials, and we will ultimately do what is in the best interests of our student athletes and their safety.”

For football games the district is implementing these policies:

• Face coverings will be highly recommended for spectators. The public address announcer will remind spectators several times throughout the contest.

• Students will be required to wear face coverings when they cannot social distance.

• The band will perform and sit in the north endzone.

• Visiting fans will sit on the east side bleachers, they will have access to restrooms connected to the concession stand. The concession stand will have a specific window for visiting fans.

• Fans are encouraged to sit on the hill or bring lawn chairs to sit up near the locker room or south of the home bleachers.

• Children need to be near their parents. No running or playing behind the bleachers.

• Fans will not be allowed on the track before, during or after a contest.

• No gatherings on the field after the game. Players will be rushed to the locker room after the game. No gathering will be permitted in the parking lot after the game.

• Parents are encouraged to wait in their vehicles for their child after the contest.

For events held in the gym, the following guidelines will be followed:

• Face coverings will be required for all spectators until they can properly social distance. The public address announcer will remind spectators several times throughout the contest.

• Student section will be required to wear face coverings when they cannot social distance.

• Attendees must wear face covering when they leave their seat (ex: restroom, concession stand, commons area)

• Visiting fans will sit on east bleachers

• Children need to be near their parents. No running or playing in the commons area

• No gatherings on the floor during the game. Players will be rushed to the locker room after the game. No gatherings will be permitted on the court after the game.

• Parents are encouraged to wait in their vehicle for their child after the contest.

  • This isn't a comment on mask wearing or playing sports during this pandemic.......but rather how the School District can hold students to a higher standard than adults. If masks are required for students then adults that want to attend need to adhere to the same rules. Were either about keeping our kids safe or were not. Masks required for all or optional for all!

  • so much for all the life lessons and experiences that sports are for to begin with...if players can not even visit with their competitors after a hard fought battle because they are 'rushed to the locker room', then perhaps there is no real point for any of this any more. I certainly don't have all the answers or know the future, but I am afraid at some point we are going to regret what we are doing to our society and children.
