McCormicks celebrate 70th anniversary

Wednesday, August 5, 2020

Ralph Robert (Bob) McCormick and Emma Jean Burton were married Aug. 6, 1950. Their 70 years of marriage started many years before. They met at Pleasant Dale School as fourth graders. That is when they decided they “might” like each other.

As the schoolhouse friendship grew, Bob, being a year older, was leaving Pleasant Dale after eighth grade to attend Monett High School. Bob decided he wasn’t leaving Emma Jean behind, so he repeated eighth grade with her. They both then attended and graduated Monett High School with the Class of 1949.

Bob and Emma Jean were both born and raised in Monett. They are blessed with two children, Marsha Jean (McCormick) Rountree and James Robert (Jim) McCormick. The family has been active in the community for many years, including their membership in the Monett First Presbyterian Church. More than 60 years ago, Bob and Emma Jean purchased their first home, and that cherished structure is where their raised their children and continue to live today.

Bob and Emma’s love of family has blossomed over the yeas to include five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A private celebration will be hosted by their children at a later date. Those wishing to send cards may address correspondence to: Marsha Rountree, P.O. Box 82, Shell Knob, MO., 65747.
