The reopening of the Monett Area YMCA on Monday came as a welcome relief to many. Ashley Verslues of Monett, running on one of the treadmills, said, “I’m a stay-at-home mom. This is the only time I get out of the house.” Commenting on the reopening, Dove Haney, executive director of the Monett Area YMCA, said. “Everybody has been so kind and happy to be back at the YMCA. I’m very hopeful when stage 2 [of the reopening] comes, we can reopen the pool. It all depends on the timing and the state, as well as the Barry County Health Department.” Murray Bishoff/times-news@monett-times.com

The reopening of the Monett Area YMCA on Monday came as a welcome relief to many.

Among those returning to the Monett Area YMCA on its first day back open after the pandemic shutdown on Monday were Monett High School athletes Daniel Geiss, left, and Isaac Lindsey, both baseball players, who were eager to return to weight machines from home workouts. “I think everybody’s as happy to see us as we are to see them,” said Lacy Freitag, Monett Area YMCA membership director, commented on the first day crowd.
