School districts review COVID-19 plans
Another meeting scheduled for Thursday morning
About 25-30 school district leaders in Barry, Lawrence and Newton counties met via conference call Wednesday morning to review their responses to COVID-19 (coronavirus).
Richard Asbill, Cassville superintendent, said due to Greene and Christian county schools extending their wellness breaks through April 24, local districts are reevaluating.
“We are waiting until after a meeting of the Missouri Department of Education Advisory Council, as we have two southwest Missouri representatives on that council,” Asbill said. “They are Zach Harris, Lamar superintendent, and Melissa Massey, director of the Southwest Center. We are scheduled to meet again on Thursday morning to review.”
Asbill said many local districts have connections to adjacent counties with coronavirus cases and districts.
“Christian and Greene counties impacts to us spiderweb out, and our local districts have connections to those greater counties,” he said.
