American Legion Post honors commander at holiday dinner

Bob Painter was named Legionnaire of the Year for Hobbs-Anderson American Legion Post No. 91 in Monett. The announcement was made during the annual Christmas dinner for the Post and Ladies Auxiliary. held on Dec. 3.

Acting as Post commander, Painter opened the evening by introducing the Monett JROTC color guard, which presented the Colors and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Crae Salsman, 11. played taps on his harmonica.

Vice Commander Tom Pinkley offered the blessing for the evening followed by everyone enjoying a meal of turkey, brisket and all the trimmings and fellowship. Following the meal. Pinkley and the Post paid tribute to Painter by naming him the 2019 Legionnaire of the Year.

The evening was brought to a close with Crae Salsman on his harmonica playing "Silent Night."
