New Site Baptist Church of Monett held it’s annual “Lite In The Nite” indoor trunk or treat event Wednesday, Oct. 30 in the New Site Church Gym.

Although cold temperatures and misty conditions had descended upon the area, New Site saw a record breaking 1,700 people pass through their gym during the event, significantly more attendees than in previous years. Church officials attribute the record breaking numbers to the fact that they made the decision a few years ago to move the event indoors instead of in its original outdoor format.

“Moving the event indoors a few years ago was definitely a wise move on our part,” said Chris Truitt, children’s pastor. “Not only for safety and additional parking, but Missouri weather can be so finicky. Our double gym provides enough space to fit a few hundred inside waiting in line while another few hundred are collecting candy. We are so thankful to have the facilities we have.”

Pastor Aaron Weibel attributed the success to the diligence of staff and church volunteers.

“I am very proud of the New Site Church Staff and many selfless volunteers for making this our best Lite In The Nite ever,” he said. “We plan to continue the growing tradition next year.”
