‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ coming to Purdy
Fall musical set for Nov. 1, 2 in performing arts center
Rehearsals are in full swing for the 2019 Purdy High School Musical. Eagle performers will take the stage to present “Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr.,” an abbreviated version of the Broadway show, on Nov. 1 and 2. Performances will be held each evening at 7 p.m.in the district’s Performing Arts Center on Highway C. Tickets are $5 each and will be sold at the door.
“Thoroughly Modern Millie” tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, played by sophomore M’Kena Propps, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love. Lauren Lee, Purdy High School vocal music director, invites patrons to “experience the magic of the Roaring ‘20s, when women were just entering the workforce and also embracing the glamour, fringe and beaded world of the flapper. Join us as we Charleston our way back in time for this Tony Award-winning spoof of a silent movie melodrama.”
