Gathering near Nixa includes games, recognitions
The 129th annual reunion of the McCullah-Wasson family was held July 28-Aug. 4 at Finley River near the Hawkins Bridge, part of the Hawkins farm used continually as a campsite since 1908.
The reunion has been held without fail since 1890, starting as a surprise birthday party for Samuel Calvin McCullah, son of Alexander and Lucy (Robertson) McCullah, north of Marionville. This year 231 relatives and 21 visitors attended from 12 states. Thirty tents, campers and trailers set up around the campground.
The oldest member is attendance was Eleanor Anderson of Dallas, Texas. The youngest were grandsons of John and Cynthia (Haege) Scholz of Springfield, both around age six months. They were Sawyer Tarrasch Scholz, son of Stephen and Rachel Scholz, and Desmond Walter Scholz, son of Andrew and Laine Scholz, all of Springfield.
Activities included a 31-card tournament, a Texas Holdem tournament, science experiments, a side dish contest, a dessert contest and a craft auction. Floating on James River, swimming, fishing and visiting were included. The group photo was taken on the Friday evening.
