Area players find way to All-State honors

Numerous area baseball players displayed their acumen in the classroom this season and now have been officially recognized for that achievement.

The Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association (MHSBCA) released its 2019 Academic All-State team.

In order to be named to the all-state team, four criteria must be met:

• Start in 70 percent of the teams games or as a pitcher in the starting rotation.

• Be in the top 25 percent of his class or score of at least 24 on the ACT.

• A minimum GPA of 3.5 percent based on a weighted system but must be converted prior to submission to a 4.0 scale.

• The nomination form signed by coach and principal

For team recognition, the following must be met:

• The team will consist of all players on the varsity eligibility roster excluding freshmen.

• The cumulative GPA of the semester, as of January will be used. Exchange students, transfer students, and freshmen for the first semester would not be eligible.

• To qualify, the team average must be 3.0 or better based on a 4.0 scale. For schools that use a scale beyond 4.0, the GPA must be readjusted to a 4.0 scale by the counseling department.

• A team’s MSHSAA eligibility list must be sent with all nominations whether team nominations or individual nominations.

• The high school head coach must be a member of MHSBCA, and a nominating coach must be a member of the MHSBCA.
