Mission group reports to Dorcas Ladies Aid

Members discuss 150th anniversary of Trinity Lutheran Church

The LWML Dorcas Ladies Aid met Jan. 3, in the Fellowship Hall of Trinity Lutheran School in Freistatt.

President Doris Meyer called the meeting to order with 14 members and four guests; Bryanna Marten, Bobby, Lavern Langer and Patsy Richard from Jamaica in the Caribbean Islands.

The devotion was given by Cheryl Brown, with the Epiphany as the theme.

We had the Mite ingathering with Marge Harris giving the prayer.

The program was given by Bobbie and Richard telling about the mission work being done in Jamaica by their group. They told about the blessings that God is bestowing on them. The people are in such need of items that we take for granted. It was very interesting and informative.

Mission Committee chairman Karen Kleiboeker said Cheryl and Walt Brown delivered quilts and clothing to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in St. Louis on Dec. 7, 2018.

On Dec. 10, 2018, Edith Harmon, Judy Krueger, Becky Morgan, Meyer and Kleiboeker prepared 13 food boxes for families in need and 26 fruit bags for handicapped and shut-in church members and residents at the Golden Heimat. Kleiboeker thanked everyone for all the generous donations.

The next Mission Committee work day was panned for Jan. 28.

The funeral service for Linda Gayle Ehrhardt was held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Dec. 7. A lunch following the service was served to 50 people. The committee was Kleiboeker, chairman, Susan Stark, Morgan, Glenda Schoen, Aletha Smialek and Harmon. Jerry Krueger helped take out the trash.

Funeral services for Elda Nelson was held on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church. A funeral lunch was served after the service with 87 people served. The committee serving the meal was Cheryl Brown, chairman, Susan Stark, Carolyn Kleiboeker, Sue Mattlage and Kim Moennig, Walter Brown helped with serving drinks, set-up, and clean-up. Gloria Krueger helped also.

Funeral services for Elmer A. Kaiser was held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2018. A lunch following the service was served to 99 people. The family was very appreciative of the meal and the time for fellowship. Serving were Kleiboeker, chairman, Linda Jelinek, Harmon, Bonnie Worm and Gloria Krueger. Also helping were Aletha Smialek and Grace Doss. Jerry Krueger helped cleanup and take out the trash.

Evelyn Bracht reported one baptismal napkin was made.

Birthday Chairman Dorothy Osterloh announced those having birthdays in January which included Aletha Smialek, Deborah Porter, Cheryl Brown and Osterloh. Members sang the birthday song.

The Business meeting was conducted with Smialek, assistant secretary, reading the Dec. 6, 2018 minutes, which were approved. Correspondence was read.

Treasurer Connie Prater read the Jan. 1 financial report.

In new business, the meeting at church on January 6 in reference to the 150th anniversary of the church, and the 7 Testaments of Christ, was discussed. Stark will give a report about it in the February LWML meeting.

The coffee pot situation was discussed. Prater will check the sizes and prices of coffee pots and will report back in the February meeting.

Cheryl said that she and Walt would be going to St. Louis in January and they would take another load of quilts to Mt. Olive.

Meyer thanked the hostesses Meyer and Morgan.

The meeting closed with the Lordís Prayer.
