Bi-county educators lobby for support of public education

Local education retirees from the Missouri Retired Teachers Association traveled to Jefferson City on Feb. 12 to hear state leaders and encourage support for public education and retirees.

Mary Mael, Carlene Garner, Vicki Orr, Shirley Andrus, Ruby Vincent, Sunni Wilson, and Jane Baker heard talks by Governor Michael Parson, Auditor Nicole Galloway and Representative Patricia Pike on their support of Missouri education and retirees.

Following the assembly, members visited with Senator David Sater (R-Cassville) in his office. They also visited the offices of Representative Mike Moon (R-Ash Grove) and State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick.

Of utmost importance to the group was a bill introduced by Representative Jered Taylor (R-Nixa) to change the retirement policy of retirees, which is strongly opposed by MRTA.
