Courthouse photo exhibit offers wide views of state

Saturday, December 1, 2018
On display at the Monett Museum, located at 422 E. Broadway, are photos of 36 county courthouses of the 114 in the state, a special showing provided by the State Historical Society. The exhibit shows striking differences in architecture, provides histories of each building and unique features. Lou Ellen Honeycutt, who traveled widely in the state as a nurse for the migrant program, points to one of her favorites, an extra feature in the Lexington County courthouse: a Civil War era cannonball lodged in one of the courthouse pillars that locals kept as a reminder of perilous times. The exhibit will remain on display through the end of December. Murray Bishoff/times-news@monett-times.com
