Judith A. Hoover, age 80, of Monett, MO, passed from this life on Wednesday afternoon, November 21, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield following a short illness.
She was born February 24, 1938, in Springfield, Missouri, the daughter of the late Bert E. and R. Louise (Spillers) Ellis. She was united in marriage to C. Richard (Dick) Hoover on December 21, 1962, in Springfield. They shared 54 years together before he preceded her in death April 8, 2017. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth (Lybbe) Hoover Unruh.
Judy is survived by her two daughters Kathryn (Kathy) Lowry and spouse (Steven) of Aurora; Tamara (Tami) Hoover of Monett; by one son Wynn Hoover of Springfield; and son-in-law Bill Unruh, Grove, Okla. Judy also has ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Marilynn Ellis, sister and two nieces of Mt. Vernon also survive.
After finishing her education in Springfield Judy worked as a bookkeeper for Jeth-Roe Mfg in Springfield, as an office manager at J.C. Penney, Wichita KS, owned a home and auto store in Shell Knob and as an administrator for Medicalodges, Inc.
Judy grew up in Springfield surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles and many cousins. She had traced her family origins to Scotland, England, Ireland and Germany as far back as the fifteen and sixteen hundreds. Judy was proud of her Scottish heritage, her ancestors being the Halliburton Sept of the Home Clan. She had several Revolutionary and many Civil War (both sides) soldiers.
As her children grew up she was involved in many of their activities, including Boy and Girl Scouting, home room mother, PTA, Sunday school and Vacation Bible School.
Judy was instrumental in the founding of and was a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Shell Knob. She served as a deacon and Elder in Presbyterian Churches in Wichita, Shell Knob, Aurora and Monett. She was currently a member of Waldensian Presbyterian in Monett.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hoover will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Waldensian Presbyterian Church in Monett. Reverend Randy Crane will be officiating. Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Springfield at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Visitation will be held at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday evening. Memorial contributions can be made to Waldensian Presbyterian Church in care of the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, Mo.
