Chief Sarcoxie Days planned for Sept. 6-8
Annual event to feature live music, parade, activities
The town of Sarcoxie, west of Pierce City, will host its annual Chief Sarcoxie Days celebration Sept. 6 though Sept. 8 downtown.
Opening ceremonies will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 6, followed by introduction of royalty, the "chief" and "squaw" for the festival. A home show will be offered on Sept. 7 and 8 at the Cutbirth Building, on the north side of the square. Live music on Sept. 7 will begin at 5:30 p.m. with DeWayne Bowman and Sassafras.
Sept. 8 will begin with a livestock show at the city barn and a car show on the north side of the square. Starting at 9 a.m., a baby contest will be held at the gazebo and a domino tournament at Charlie's Hideaway, a block north of the Gene Taylor Community building. A washer tournament is planned for 10:30 a.m. Princess Sarcoxie will be crowned at noon and the parade runs at 2 p.m.
Music on Saturday will begin with a talent show at 3 p.m., followed at 5 p.m. by Mt. Vernon native singer/songwriter Liz Moriando and Eddie Valen at 8 p.m.
A community church service is planned in the square at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 9.
