MVCT presents ‘La Rue’s Return or How’s a Bayou?’
The Mt. Vernon Community Theatre will present "La Rue's Return or How's a Bayou?"
The play is a reader's theatre melodrama by Scott Cherney and Edward Thorpe, at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 22, at the Monett Historical Society's Museum at 418 E. Broadway.
Set in New Orleans, the performance details how the wicked criminal, Jacques La Rue, arrives in the city set to exact his vengeance on those who sent him to prison. Standing in his path are the courageous, yet dim U.S. Cavalry officer Lt. Alan Wexstad and the whacked-out witch known as the Swamp Crone.
This hilarious riff on the classic melodrama is filled with outrageous characters, plenty of slapstick action and even includes a swashbuckling sword fight in the swamp.
Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
