Ad campaign winner to be chosen by readers
Drury marketing class aids local businesses, gives experience
The Monett Times, in partnership with Drury University and two local businesses, is hosting an online contest that highlights the culmination of an advertising and public relations course offered at Drury's Monett campus.
Readers are invited to vote for their favorite ad out of two choices: Mo Wings restaurant in Monett and Hungry Hollow Brewing Company in rural Cassville.
The ad that earns the most votes will run in The Monett Times and Connection Magazine.
The ads were created as part of a 16-week Integrated Brand Management course taught by Joel Thomas at Drury's satellite campus in Monett. Students enrolled in the class were divided into two groups. Each group worked with an individual business to create an integrated marketing communication plan.
“Our goal is to provide students with a foundation of advertising and [public relations] concepts in the first eight weeks and then put those principles into a practice by working with an actual business during the final eight weeks of the semester,” Thomas said. “We have found that our students really appreciate breaking away from the traditional text book and gaining real life experience in working with each of their businesses. The students are brainstorming and collaborating with their client and then working together as a team with their peers to meet various project deadlines. The students truly have ownership of this class project and are required to craft a creative brief, an online and print ad, and a press release.
"This program is designed to join students with area businesses so they can learn in a real-world environment about what it takes to pull together an integrated marketing campaign. It is a collaborative effort between students and business owners on what it takes to build and promote a companies brand. The teamwork is instrumental and something the students need to learn and understand as they enter the workforce and join the business world. I couldn't be more proud of what the students have accomplished and thankful to Mo Wings and Hungry Hollow for working with us this semester."
Students also had the opportunity to work with several media experts, including The Monett Times' General Manager Lisa Craft.
Steve Carnes, Riley Carnes and Leigh Ann Carnes are owners of Mo Wings. His class marketing team includes Kelly Aldaba, Yaki Avila, Brittany Garver, Antonio Marquez and Horacio Rangel.
Joseph and Veronica Zucca are co-owners of Hungry Hollow Brewing Company in Cassville. Their class marketing team includes: Yessenia Arreola, Victor Hernandez, Kimberly McCollough, Leo Regalado and Julie Sellers.
Voting will continue through Wednesday, May 9. Individuals are allowed to vote more than once, but only once a day.
The winning ad will be published in The Monett Times and in Connection Magazine.
