Students create homemade music

Students in the first and second grade classroom of Sally Heidlage, at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Pierce City, have just finished a science chapter covering light and sound. To demonstrate their understanding of the chapter’s content, students made and played their own instruments from materials they found around their homes. Instruments included a maraca guitar, maracas, drums, a harmonica and a flute. Students had to discuss how their instruments were made, their pitch, and why the particular instrument was chosen.
