Jennifer Conner: Strong EPA needed with recent violations

Saturday, February 17, 2018

Dear Editor,

I was appalled to learn that President Trumpís proposed budget would cut funding for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by 25 percent. †

As a parent living in the Monett area, I know this proposed cut would be bad for our community. One example of why we need a strong EPA: Tyson recently was fined by the EPA for the polluting Center Creek and triggering a massive fish kill. If we donít have an effective agency protecting our health, what is to keep Tyson (or other companies) from cutting corners again and†poisoning our rivers or, worse yet, poisoning our drinking water?

EPA director Scott Pruittís salary is paid by each one of us.† His job is to protect the public health, not compromise it. He has been given one of the most important jobs in this country and heís blowing it.
