Rebelís Bluff Troupe to offer winter comedy
'If the Good Lord's Willing and the Creek Don't Rise' at the MARC
The Mt. Vernon theatrical company Rebel's Bluff Troupe will present Pat Cook's comedy "If the Good Lord's Willing and the Creek Don't Rise" on Feb. 9-11 at the Mt. Vernon Arts and Recreation Center (the MARC), 822 W. Mt. Vernon Blvd.
"This zany comedy centers on Joe "Doc" Babcock, an eccentric old man whose house caters to all sorts of characters," said Cindy Green, director of the play. "Now a retired judge, he spends his days enjoying life. When heís not flying around the countryside in his hot air balloon or fishing in a nearby dry riverbed he works on his books of nonsense. This prompts his daughter Charlotte to decide heís lost his marbles. So, conspiring with a sly lawyer, she plans to not only become his guardian but also sell his house and property. Throw in a psychologist on her first case, love sick teenagers, an irate school bus driver and an occasional artist or two and itís a madhouse!"
The cast is led by Adam Rogers as Doc, Delana Hunt as Charlotte, Tyler Maas as the villainous attorney Gerald Firestone, Lana Moore as Doc's close friend Elizabeth Calirbourne, Hannah Varberg and Darwyn Thompson as the love-struck teens, and a supporting cast of Natasha Varberg, Emily Owens, and Joseph Mattocks.
Performances will be given at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 and 10 and 3 p.m. on Feb. 11. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door. Information is available by calling 417-466-7130. Proceeds will support the company's selected charity for the winter, the backpack program supporting the Mt. Vernon school students and the Diaper Pantry, run through a local church.
