A year's worth of dedication and service was recognized and celebrated recently as Monett Lions gathered at the Historical Society's Event Center.

President Tom Wormington served as emcee for the Appreciation Dinner which provides an opportunity for project chairpersons to recognize the time and effort members give to carry out the club's successful fundraising and service projects.

The occasion also provided opportunity for four new members to be inducted into Lions International, the largest service organization in the world. The evening's activities were extra significant as Lions worldwide are celebrating the organization's I00th birthday.

Dedicated Lion, Tom Carroll, at left, was tapped as 2017 “Johnny Appleseed Award Recipent” by Apple Butter Making Project Co-Chairmen Robbie Davis, center, and Al Dohmen, right. The award is presented annually to the Lion who has given above and beyond to make the project successful. Davis and Dohmen also presented all workers with participation certificates and a pint of Apple Butter as tokens of appreciation. Contributed photo

The evening's activities concluded with a video slide show highlighting dedicated Lions engaged in numerous service projects and fundraising ventures, including the annual Fourth of July Chicken Barbecue. Apple Butter Making, and Community Kitchen.
