New officers, committee assignments to be voted on

The Dorcas Ladies Aid of Trinity Lutheran Church, Freistatt, met in the Fellowship Hall of the school with Doris Meyer, president, calling the October meeting to order. A total of 12 members and one guest were present.

Judy Krueger gave the devotion based on Titus 3: 4-7 with Reformation in mind, “Saved by Faith.”

Aletha Smialek, assistant secretary, read the minutes from the Sept. 7 meeting, and after some small corrections, they were approved.

Cheryl Brown, assistant treasurer, presented the financial report and correspondence was read.

Meyer reported for Karen Kleiboeker on the mission committee. The workday was held Sept. 25. Meyer is taking four large quilts to a family in need in Frisco, Texas. Melinda Stanford Lenzy will be taking quilts in November to Houston, Texas, to provide comfort to the hurricane victims. The next workday will be Oct. 23rd.

Edith Harmon reported that Gloria Krueger will help fill the altar candles.

Betty Sawyer said that she has 2,000 Best Choice labels to send in as of Oct. 1.

Dorothy Osterloh gave the birthday report. The only birthday in October was Meyer so members sang the birthday song in her honor.

Brown, nominating committee chairman, reported officers for 2018 will be the same as 2017 with one exception. Gloria Krueger will replace Marjorie Harris as secretary. The official vote will be taken at the November meeting. One committee change will be that Evelyn Bracht will be making baptismal napkins with help from Judy Krueger.

Meyer reminded everyone that the Fall Rally would be held Nov. 4 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Carthage.

Brown talked about making a Memorial Book honoring members who have passed away.

The Adult Information Class is in need of Bibles. A motion was made, seconded and passed that the Ladies Aid purchase Bibles and present them to the pastor for the class.

Everyone was reminded that the baby shower for Courtney and Pastor Jake would be Oct. 8.

The program, presented by Brown, Sawyer and Susan Stark, focused on the church hymnal. They demonstrated how and where to look for information on the church year, the scripture readings for the church year, the colors for the church year and the sections for certain services. It was very instructive and informative.

Cards were signed and readied for sending as there was no visitor for October.

Meyer served as hostess in place of Lena Bremer, who fractured her wrist, and Jeanne Stoltz who was unable to attend.

Those attending were: Evelyn Bracht, Cheryl Brown, Edith Harmon, Judy Krueger, Doris Meyer, Rebecca Morgan, Nadine Obermann, Dorothy Osterloh, Betty Sawyer, Courtney Sletten, Aletha Smialek, Susan Stark and guest Karen Schmedeke.
