Hospice Dream Team seeking Christmas gift donations
Mobile Christmas store serves area nursing home residents
Dream Team volunteers for Hospice Compassus are collecting new items for their Christmas Store.
The annual effort will be used for a mobile Christmas Store that will be taken to area nursing homes in December. New items are being accepted for all ages, from infants to seniors.
The Dream Team enables nursing home residents to shop, at no charge, for the important people in their lives. The Dream Team’s goal is to create memorable opportunities that help both the residents and those closest to them better cope with life limiting circumstances.
“By providing opportunities for residents to once again experience the joy of holiday giving, and to watch their loved ones as they experience the joy of holiday receiving, well, it just doesn’t get more memorable than that,” sid Brenda Smith, Dream Team and Hospice Compassus volunteer coordinator.
The Dream Team is looking for merchants willing to donate close-outs and seasonal items, as well as individuals willing to donate new unused items that are simply hanging-out in their basements and closets. They hope the community will embrace their project as a meaningful way to "pay it forward."
In addition to the gifts items, the Dream Team is seeking donations of gift bags, gift wrap, ribbon, bows, tape, and name tags. They are seeking partnerships with local scout troops, clubs, churches, and other organizations interested in collecting the gifts, assisting the resident shoppers, and giftwrapping.
The Community Hospices of America Foundation’s Dream Team and Compassus Hospice volunteers established the Dream Team Christmas Store in 2012, as a means of promoting their mission to honor life and offer hope to individuals within their community facing a life-limiting illness.
