Veteranís Day activities planned Nov. 11 in Mt. Vernon
Duke Mason and his band to give concert at the MARC
A wide range of activities to honor those who have served in the Armed Forces are planned in Mt. Vernon on Saturday, Nov. 11.
A ceremony is planned in the city square next to the Veterans Way Mural on the south side of the square at noon. People will gather at the First Baptist Church, 602 S. Hickory, and walk to the square at 11:45 a.m. The program will begin at 12:05 p.m.
A meet-and-greet, including a free meal, will follow for veterans and the community at 12:30 p.m.
Activities will conclude with a free concert by entertainer Duke Mason and his band at 6 p.m. at the Mt. Vernon Arts and Recreation Center, 822 W. Mt. Vernon Blvd. Mason will bring his humor and music to Mount Vernon for the second consecutive year. Last year was the bands first visit to Mount Vernon when they came to help dedicate the Veterans Way mural.
Mason has sung for audiences all over the world, but he considers his visit to Mount Vernon to salute American veterans as one of the best dates on his concert calendar. He will perform many of Elvis Presleyís greatest hits as well as many popular favorites.
The concert is family friendly and a gift from the Veterans Way committee, Keen Been Coffee, The Lawrence County Record, Hometown Pharmacy, Bradís True Value, L&M Tire, Mount Vernon Regional Arts Council and a generous gift from the Mount Vernon Community Foundation. Free Coffee and snacks are provided by Keen Bean Coffee. The evening is hosted by Veterans Way and the Mount Vernon Mountaineer Cheerleaders.
