Band takes eighth overall at Carthage Maple Leaf Fest

The Monett High School Marching Pride concluded its competition season at the Carthage Maple Leaf Festival.

Director Philip Soule reported the band placed second in the preliminary round and took eighth overall out of 23 bands participating.

Soule noted this year the band competed against many larger ensembles and some programs that included four directors. While competition has risen to a higher level, he said the Monett musicians grew with the season and represented their school well.

At Branson, Monett took third place in the preliminary round and 10th in the finals.

Earlier this season, the band appeared at the Mt. Vernon Marching Festival, taking fourth place in its division and eighth out of the 17 bands competing overall. In the Valhalla Festival at Parkview in Springfield, Monett moved this year to the bigger Class C division and placed fourth, missing the final round by five points. At Carl Junction, the band took second in the preliminary round and 10th place in the finals.

Band members will play in district band auditions on Nov. 7 in Mt. Vernon.
