MHS Class of 1955 meets for reunion
Classmates tour museum, salute those absent
The Monett Class of 1955 celebrated its 80th birthday at the 2017 reunion October 4-6.
Activities started Wednesday evening with a wiener roast at the home of Gale and Rose Huffmaster, who hosted and provided food and refreshments.
Thursday morning Gale gave a guided tour of the Monett Historical Society Museum. The museum features memorabilia and many photos of people and events in Monett’s history, bringing back a lot of memories.
Thursday evening the group gathered at the museum's Event Center for a buffet dinner and program. Joining the group were Dr. Ralph and Mary Scott and Dorthea Elliott. Both Scott and Elliott had taught the group. They provided interesting observations for the group.
Newton Wells filled in as master of ceremonies, filling in for Steve Jenkins.
A display table was set up with yearbooks and photos, as well as a listing of deceased classmates. The class has lost 37 of the approximately 97 in the graduating class. Four from the class have died since the last reunion in 2015, as well as three spouses.
Rod Anderson, chairman of the Monett Historic Society Campaign Fund, explained the work done at the museum and requested additional memoribiia for the displays. Recognition was given to classmate Carol Lee (Crane) Kersting for the donations she made.
A slide presentation of what Monett recreation was like in the early 1900's was given by Gordon Brown, executive director of the Monett YMCA. The evening concluded by singing "Happy Birthday to Us" followed by the Monett School Alma Mater.
Friday morning the group met for breakfast at the Angus Branch Steakhouse. Following breakfast, many of the group went to Branson to visit and see shows.
