Social media post prompts police response at schools
School Resource Officer: 'We err on the side of caution'
A post on social media sometime over the Labor Day weekend led to more Monett police officers working as security at the Monett school district this week.
Jay Jastal, school resource officer, is not releasing much information about the incident yet, as suggested charges have yet to be submitted to the prosecutor.
"There was something posted that just shouldn't have been posted," he said. "Our initial investigation is done, and there is no threat to the schools. You never know [in these situations], so we always take it seriously."
Jastal said police have already made contact with the individual who made the post.
"Any time we have something like this, we err on the side of caution, and we had extra people work to make sure we didn't miss anything."
Jastal said extra officers were on duty in the mornings and afternoons this week.
"Each situation dictates a different response," he said.
Jastal said more information may be released if charges are officially filed.
