Character education medals for courage were awarded in May at Purdy Elementary School. Each teacher nominates one student who best exemplifies the trait presented. At the awards presentation, hosts Joshua Hughes, playing ornery second grade student “Joshie,” and Christina Harmon, portraying his sidekick, “Chrissy,” introduced an honored guest and familiar face to help them define courage, retiring teacher Linda Patton. Pictured, from left, are: first graders Marley Jackson and Violet Wolf, kindergartener Emanuel Paxtor, first grader Ashley Paxtor and second grader Sherlyn Paxtor. Back row: Joshua Hughes, as “Joshie,” fourth graders Cristian Villa, Alondra Canales and Keele Allen-Thorpe; Linda Patton, third graders J.J. Aguilar, Zoe Anderson and Haley Juarez Solis, and Christina Harmon, as “Chrissie.” Contributed photo
