Saturday storms damage trees in Monett

Saturday, May 27, 2017
Following severe storms rolling through the Monett area in the 7 p.m. hour on Saturday, as the rain stopped, street and electric crews in Monett responded to reports of downed trees. One tree at Dunn and Lincoln broke cleanly to fall squarely into the street. A chainsaw and a front end loader proved necessary to reopen the street. More significant tree damage was reported in the countryside two miles north of Pierce City. Murray Bishoff/times-news@monett-times.com

The worst tree damage in Monett came in South Park, where an oak north of the Camp Kitchen that looks out over Highway 37 snapped at the trunk, taking down the power lines for the picnic pavilion with it. Skies cleared into an eery orange as the storm passed, giving emergency crews a good look at the damage. Murray Bishoff/times-news@monett-times.com
