First time a Monett FFA squad has claimed state title

COLUMBIA In a first for the Monett FFA program, the Monett dairy cattle evaluation team won first in state in the dairy cattle evaluation career development event at the 89th Missouri FFA Convention.

This is the first state winning team for the Monett FFA, and came in competition in a field of 60 teams. The team members consisted of Lora Wright, Sam Masri and Blake Wright.

Individually, Lora Wright placed second, Masri placed third and Blake Wright placed 10th out of 221 participants. The Monett FFA advisor is Kristy Sivils. Larry and Jodi Wright coached the team.

Individuals in this event are scored based on how well they apply dairy cattle evaluation skills learned in the classroom. Each team evaluates five classes of four dairy cattle and presents oral reasons for their evaluations. Each student takes a 50-question knowledge test over varying aspects of the dairy industry.

The team will be practicing at various dairy farms throughout the summer and will compete at the National FFA Convention in October in Indianapolis. If they do well at the national competition they will have the opportunity to travel over seas to judge dairy cattle.
