Area FFA students, chapters do well in state contests
Miller chapter member named state vice president
The number of bi-county FFA members and chapters placed in competition at the Missouri FFA state convention, held in Columbia April 20-21.
Chad Laxton from the Miller chapter was elected the 2017-2018 state vice president. He is the son of Christopher and Melissa Steele. His chapter advisors are Lyle Whittaker and Emily Paul. He served as chapter president and area vice president.
Blane Schnake of Stotts City received second place the the Missouri FFA beef production entrepreneurship proficiency award. Schnake, a graduate of Mount Vernon High School, is the son of Dustin and Scynthia Schnake. He is a member of the Mount Vernon FFA Chapter. His advisors are Steven Prewitt and Jay Shepherd.
Schnakeís supervised agricultural experience program consists of a feedlot calf operation. He develops his operation on his parentís land in exchange for labor on the farm. Schnake also has rented land and continues to grow his operation.
In career development events, the Aurora FFA chapter took third place in agronomy. The Mt. Vernon chapter took fourth place in the competition for conducting a chapter meeting. The Wheaton chapter took third place in dairy foods. The Miller chapter took third place in meats.
