Area schools to send 4 golfers to the state tourney

Monett, Pierce City and Purdy will be represented in their respective classes at the state tournament next week.

On Monday, the Cubs finished fourth as a team at the sectional meet with a 351 at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in Jefferson City.

Three Cubs earned the right to advance to the state meet in Sedalia.

Clayton Kaiser led the way for Monett with a 12-over-par 83 and was 16th overall. Caleb Long and Lane Witt tied for 22nd overall with 15-over-par scores.

Shane Pass was 37th with a plus-21 and Tommy Sangston was plus-28 and tied for 51st.

In the Class 1, Sectional 1 draw at the Bill and Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield, Matt Wilson recorded a 12-over-par 82 for Purdy and finished tied for ninth. Tyler Keeler checked into the clubhouse with a 20-over-par 90 to punch his ticket.

Pierce City’s Kaleb Meyer earned a state berth with a 92 and finished tied for 18th.

Hunter Freeman finished 35th and was 35-over-par.

The Class 1 tournament is slated for Monday and Tuesday at Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club in Bolivar.
