An 80th birthday celebration open house to honor Larry Wood of Monett will be held from 3:00 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Fellowship Baptist Church 17818 Farm Road 2200 in rural Aurora. Omission of gifts is requested.

St. Mary’s Catholic School in Pierce City is having a Mother and Son Dance from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 in the school gym.

A retirement reception for Patricia Ray, who has given 35 years of service to the Barry-Lawrence County Development Center, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5 at the Monett City Park Casino.

The Rebel’s Bluff Troupe in Mt. Vernon will present the comedy “Aunt Ollie’s Home Away from Home” at 7 p.m. on Feb. 10 and 11 and 3 p.m. on Feb. 12 at the Mt. Vernon Arts and Recreation Center, (the MARC), 822 W. Mt. Vernon Blvd. Tickets are $10 for general admission seating. Some proceeds will benefit local charities.

The University of Missouri Extension will offer a Winter Dairy Day, formerly the Crane Dairy Day, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 at Alice Irene’s Restaurant in Marionville. Speakers will discuss strategies for successful dairy farming, reduced-lignan alfalfa and generational changes on the farm. Cost is $5. Pre-registration is requested by calling 417-466-3102.

The Pierce City Fire District board will meet at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the rural station at 2543 Farm Road 2225, west of Pierce City.

The Monett Senior Center will host a Valentine’s Dance from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Monett City Park Casino. Evelyn Lock and the Outrider Band will perform. Those attending are encouraged to bring a snack to share.

Ronald McDonald restaurants will be participating in the annual Share a Heart campaign to benefit the Ronald McDonald Houses of Springfield. Contributions of $1, $5 AND $20 will help provide food, lodging and comfort to families of seriously ill and injured children receiving medical treatment at Cox and Mercy Hospitals in Springfield. Donations help fund the operating expenses of the facilities, located near Cox Hospital South and inside Mercy Kids. The campaign will run through Feb. 28.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 1023 will meet at 4 p.m. on Feb. 4 at the Angus Branch Steakhouse on Chapell Drive in Monett.

The Monett Artists’ Guild will present a stage version of the children’s book classic “The Velveteen Rabbit” at 7 p.m. on Feb. 3 and 4 and 2 pm. on Feb. 5 at the Monett High School Performing Arts Center.

The Chariots of Grace Chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association will meet at 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 at Mercy Hospital, 700 Poter in Aurora, in the conference room. For additional information, people may call 417-258-2519.

The University of Missouri Extension Service will offer pesticide application training at 6 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the Southwest Research Center, southwest of Mt. Vernon, or on March 13 in Cassville, either at 1 p.m. at the Historic Courthouse, or at 5:30 p.m. at the Cassville High School vo-ag department. All sessions have a $15 charge. The next meeting of the McDowell Golden Jubilee will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 at the old McDowell School, south of Pleasant Ridge on Highway VV, south of Highway Z. Fans of old-time music and performers are welcome. Concessions will be available. Today is a performance at the Clio Center, south of Jenkins.
