Vehicle runs off Hwy. 37 onto train tracks

Wednesday, February 1, 2017
Train traffic was stopped at the viaduct on Highway 37 just north of Highway 60 Tuesday afternoon when a northbound 2000 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Joshua Robinson, 38, of rural Aurora, traveled off the east side of the roadway, behind the guardrail and vaulted off the embankment, coming to a rest on the tracks. Emergency responders on the scene extricated Robinson, the sole occupant, who was transported to Cox Monett Hospital for treatment of extensive injuries. Investigating the crash was Monett Patrolman Dennis Camp, who said the victim had reportedly been distracted by a handheld device. Camp said maintenance crews from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad were working in the Monett yard at the time of the crash and were able to inspect the tracks and clear them for traffic.
