Weight management program offered

Cox Monett to begin effort for ages 11 to 14 on Feb. 6

Cox Monett Hospital is accepting registration for its adolescent weight management program, set to begin on Feb. 6.

Committed to Kids is a program for adolescents teens, ages 11 to 14, with a body mass index (BMI) greater than the 85th percentile. Using a behavioral approach to promoting a healthy lifestyle, classes are taught by a registered dietitian, licensed professional counselor and a children’s fitness specialist.

Participants and family members meet weekly for eight weeks. Classes will be taught in English and Spanish.

Classes will cover the following areas:

• Basic principles of healthy nutrition and eating behaviors;

• Improving muscular strength, aerobic endurance and flexibility, in addition to increasing lean body mass;

• Gaining vigor and an overall feeling of well-being.

This program is free to families living in Monett and Pierce City. If eligibility requirements are met, the program could be free or available at a reduced cost to families outside of Monett/Pierce City through funding provided by the Children’s Miracle Network.
