Elley Sherwood to represent school in Joplin

Verona Elementary School held its annual annual Spelling Bee on Tuesday, Jan. 24, challenging students in grades four to six to a text of excellence.

Three students from each of those grades were selected through a class spelling bee.

The winner was Elley Sherwood from Mrs. Dobyns’ fourth grade class.

The runner-up was Andrew Martinez from Mrs. Barnett’s fifth grade class.

The winning word was “utensil.”

Elley will compete as the Verona representative at the Joplin Globe Spelling Bee on March 20 at Thomas Jefferson School in Joplin.
