Ann Hall: Monett offers plenty in holiday season
Monett is blessed with many opportunities to enjoy the Thanksgiving/Christmas season, with the Chamber of Commerce and others working hard to promote Monett.
The annual Festival of Flavors, showcasing talented area food vendors, is a fun evening with lots of good food and time to visit with friends. If you missed it this year, mark your calendars for 2017.
Dear to my heart is the Festival of Lights in Monett's South Park. When Sharon Garrett had the vision for lights in the park, then asked me to chair the fundraising committee, neither of us realized how huge it would become, nor how many visitors it would attract to Monett each year -- nor how much fun it is to work the Elf Hut, a family tradition for many!
New to Monett this year was the Southern Gospel Sing. Duane Garren brought internationally-known performers to the Monett High School Performing Arts Auditorium for a three hour concert, where attendees from at least five different states outnumbered the locals. This was a major coup for Monett, as towns such as Tulsa and Lebanon actively solicit these groups to perform there.
Coming up shortly will be the Monett Christmas parade, concerts by church choirs and performances by the Ozark Festival Orchestra. Take the opportunity to enjoy these venues that make Monett the jewel in the crown that is Southwest Missouri!
And, best of all, you don't have to leave town and fight traffic.
