Monett Times to conduct political opinion poll tonight

Thursday, July 7, 2016

The Monett Times tonight will conduct a telephone poll of Barry County voters to gauge their preferences in the sheriff and public administrator races.

The scientific poll will consist of 400 successful telephone interviews for a margin of error of 5 percent, meaning each result can be 2-1/2 percentage points higher or lower than indicated.

"There has been a lot of excitement about our local elections this year -- the sheriff's race, in particular," said Jacob Brower, publisher of The Monett Times. "We look forward to hearing what the voters have to say tonight."

Candidates in the Aug. 2 Republican primary for sheriff are Travis Hilburn of Cassville, Danny Boyd of Purdy, James A. Smith of Aurora, Justin Fohn of Cassville, Terry Meek of Washburn and Gary Davis of Cassville. The Republican nominee will face Justin Ruark, D-Cassville, in the November general election.

Candidates in the Aug. 2 Republican primary for public administrator are Keith Daniels of Exeter, Rodney Hughes of Cassville and Andy Reavis of Cassville. No Democrat has filed for public administrator, making the Republican primary the de facto general election, barring a late entry by an independent candidate.

Political polling is not meant to predict election results, but is rather a snapshot of where political contests stand at a particular point in time, Brower said.

Results of the opinion poll will be published in an upcoming edition of The Monett Times.
