The District 5 Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) hosted a workshop on cyber bullying and social media on Dec. 3 at Aurora Baptist Temple.

The event, which targeted students in 11th and 12th grades, was presented by Drury University. Attendees were seated in groups of eight to 12 and had to work together to develop a social media campaign to help raise awareness among young people about cyber-bullying and to educate them about how to report episodes of online bullying. Teams had to select a social media outlet and design a reporting method to incorporate.

Two divisional winners presented their plans to the entire group. Both winning groups received $20 cash and three free Drury University dual credit hours.

Purdy students in the winning groups included Umar Akhtar, Kaden Propps and Saima Akhtar. The Purdy FBLA chapter operates under the advisement of Kay Wright and Ashley Brown.
