Cow and Bull Auction 10/5/2015

Receipts: 276 Last Week: 386 Last Year: 424

Compared to last Monday, fat breaking slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00
lower while boning and lean cow sold 3.00-6.00 lower and slaughter bulls sold
5.00 lower. A combination of factors are contributing to the lower slaughter
cow and bull prices including a large supply of meat in cold storage, some
imports, less exports and lower pork and poultry prices compared to beef at
the meat counter. These factors have caused slaughter cow and bull prices to
fall by 25-30% below prices reported in mid-July. The offering included a light
supply of bred cows with most in the second stage and just a few cow/calf pairs.
Supply was light and demand light to moderate for slaughter classes.
