American Legion baseball season underway in Monett
Team features area's top players
The American Legion baseball season for Hobbs-Anderson Post 91 got underway Tuesday at Monett's North Park.
Monett dropped a pair of games to Cassville to open the season, 5-2 and 3-2, but the season is still young.
"I'm not worried about today," said Michael Calhoun, Post 91 coach. "Some of these guys were still playing for their high school teams [this week], and we haven't had a chance to gel at all."
This season, Post 91 features players from five local high schools: Exeter, Wheaton, Monett, Pierce City and Purdy.
With the melting pot of talent, Calhoun expects there to be some growing pains.
"It will take a few games for the players to get to know each other and for us to play at our peak potential," Calhoun said. "The big key for us is to just play as a team, relax and have fun."
With the high school postseason still going for another week, Monett has had to find extra games to fill its schedule.
"We weren't supposed to play Cassville," Calhoun said. "We just wanted to get a couple of games under our belts to get started."
This year's Legion team is comprised of: Blake Moore, Ricky Aldaba, John Saunders, Kole Kelley, Hunter Tindell, Bill Ashley, Jorden Henson, Mason Moreland, Zach Burgherr, Austin Tripp and Hilsden Moseley.
