David Compton: Newly-elected board member shares his vision

Saturday, April 11, 2015

Dear Editor:

I appreciate each and every person who made it to the polls to vote. Thank you for participating in the democratic process. A special thank you to everyone who supported me and helped me win the Barry-Lawrence County Ambulance District (BLCAD) board seat.

Let me assure you that we can all be proud of the EMS professionals at BLCAD and their commitment to our community. I am confident that with new leadership of the district we can give these professionals the support they need to be the very best.

I would like to share my visions of the 3 items I promised during the election.

* Transparency operations: Quarterly reviews of our response coverage by zone and time. Public access to the records owned by you, the taxpayer. Enhanced citizen involvement. Clearly defined and separated management responsibilities.

* Fiscal Responsibility: Immediate action to review recent inappropriate payments. Review of the bid processes being used. Consideration of an immediate financial audit.

* Evidence-based care: Review of the role of Medical Director. Development of a comprehensive quality management plan. A medical device committee to review and recommend purchases.

These are simply my ideas. While I am sharing them with you, it is ultimately the decision of the board of directors on how we move ahead. I am proud to be a part of the board, and I am sure we will have a great future.

Please feel free to contact me with your thoughts. I can be reached at 417-737-1142.

David L. Compton
