Uhl named Monett football coach
Former coordinator, line coach returns to Cubs
The Monett school district has named Derek Uhl its next football coach.
Uhl spent seven seasons on the football staff at Monett High School, from 2007 to 2013, under Alan Spencer and Chad Depee. He served as the run offense coordinator, offense line coach and special team's coach.
Uhl was the top choice of nearly 30 candidates, which was narrowed down to three before he was chosen.
He left Monett for the 2014-2015 school year to work with long-time friend Lance Parnell at Cassville.
Uhl played collegiately at Colorado State University where he earned Western Athletic All-Conference honors as a tight end.
During his previous tenure at Monett, Uhl served as the girls basketball and golf head coach.
He has his teaching certification in special education, but the district has not been determined what he will teach upon his return.
Uhl replace Chad Depee, who resigned Jan. 20 to take the head coaching job at Ozark High School.
Uhl is married to Benits (Bauer) Uhl, a Monett alumnus, Together they have three children, two boys and a girl, AJ, CJ and Kalie.
A more detailed story will be published in Friday's Monett Times.
