$300 in Monett Chamber checks up for grabs in drawing

In hopes of getting people to shop small throughout the holiday season, the Monett Chamber of Commerce will host a new event this year -- Small Business Bingo.

Meghan Shaner, executive assistant at the office, said the event will begin Saturday and run through Dec. 31.

People may pick up bingo cards at the chamber or 24 participating member businesses, and must spend at least $10 at a business to get a stamp on the bingo card. Once bingo has been achieved, participants must bering the cards, and receipts or copies of receipts, to the chamber to be entered in a drawing after the event has ended.

"This is a brand new event, and we're partnering with American Express to promote the sop small campaign," Shaner said. "We'll base our success on how much our member businesses get from this, and that's why we're asking people to turn in the receipts, so we can tell each business exactly how much they made from it."

Jeff Meredith, executive director of the chamber, said shopping small is a great way to keep local dollars continuously flowing locally.

"Shopping small stimulates the economy in a big way because of the return on the investment," he said. "Money spent locally will circulate 3.5 times in the community. And, in this case, people also have the chance to win ommney by supporting the businesses they support already."

Shaner said the majority of the chamber's members chose to participate, and the office has had a few calls inquiring about the event.

"We think this will be a very good event for people in town this holiday season," she said. "We live in this community, and we need to support it because if we don't, no one else will. We need it to flourish and strike and be there for our kids."

Those who complete the bing cards will be entered into a random drawing for 2015 Monett Chamber Checks, which may be used at any chamber member business throughout 2015. First place gets $150, second place gets $100 and third place gets $50.

Meredith said the first 20 completed bingo card entries will receive $25 American Express gift cards, only one per person. Card entries for the drawing are unlimited.

Businesses participating include: 4 State Vapors, Prime Cut Meat Market, Adrenaline Apparel & Design, Printing & More..., Big Baldy's Bac Woods Bar-B-Q, Scott's Shoes, Brownsberger's, Serenity Massage, Bruner Pharmacy, Starla K Fashions, Coast to Coast, Sweet Rock Cooking Company, Doug's Pro Lube, T-Box at Field of Dreams, Fashion Crossroads, The Bayou, Mocha Jo's Coffee Café, The Family Room Steakhouse, Modern Variety, Top Hat Dry Cleaners, Old Town Pharmacy, Two Hearts Café & Bakery, Peppers & Company and Wickman Gardens Inc.
