Countryside Christian Church, 1200 Eisenhower in Monett, will open its Living Nativity set without actors to the public from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 19 through Dec. 23, and Dec. 26 through Dec. 30. An attendant will give visitors a free CD to play in their vehicle as they drive past each of the five stops. The sets will be lit daily for viewing.
The Monett Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Jingle Mingle holiday membership gathering from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19 at the Chamber's community room at 200 E. Broadway. All the food available will come from recipes in the Chamber's new cookbook, including Jeff Meredith's "not yet famous" chili. Those attending are asked to call ahead at 235-7919 to assist preparations.
Monett Rural firefighters will offer photos with Santa from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20 at the fire station on the corner of County Road and Bridle Lane, Cost is $5.
Freedom Christian Center, north of Aurora, will have its annual 100 Bike Give-away on Sunday, Dec. 22 during the 10 a.m. service. Call 417-678-6909 by Dec. 18 to sign your children up for a free bike.
Seligman Christmas Polar Express train ride will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21 at the Seligman City Community building on the south end of Main Street by City Hall. Santa will be on the train to pass out a bag of goodies to the children. The train will go to Rogers, Ark., and back, no stopping. Cost is $15 for adults, $30 for the Upper Dome; $10 for children 12 and $15 for the dome. The train is decorated for Christmas. Children have to be with an adult. The Lighting of the Luminaries will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 21 along East and West Crestwood Drive in Monett, approximately one mile west of Highway 37 on Highway 60. Over 350 luminaries will line the streets. In case of inclement weather, the alternate date is Dec. 22.
The Purdy Elementary School Christmas program for kindergarten through second grade, plus the Eagle Echoes choir, will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19 in the elementary gym.
The McDowell Jubilee open mike concert for old-time music will be open at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21. Musicians and fans are welcome. The Jubilee is located south of Pleasant Ridge on Highway VV to McDowell and look for the signs.
