Two more arrested in Seligman

Two more Seligman residents have been arrested on drug charges, pushing the number of recent drug arrests to two in as many weeks.

Seligman Police Chief Garry Thornton reported a disturbance call coming in to the office at approximately 8 p.m. on Aug. 27.

When Patrolman Ray Ernest arrived at the scene, he requested one of the suspects, Robert Gonzales Jr., 23, of Seligman, for identification. Gonzalez opened the car door to retrieve his wallet, which was sitting on the passenger seat of the vehicle, allegedly on top of a bag of marijuana.

A second suspect at the residence, Whitney Vandeman, 20, was also arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance and child endangerment.

Gonzalez was also arrested and charged with felony possession with the intent to distribute/manufacture a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child.

Officers seized 44.4 grams of marijuana, 2.7 grams of cocaine and $500 in cash. Also seized were digital scales, two containers of marijuana seeds and a MNP 9 mm. handgun.

Agencies assisting in the arrests and seizures included Washburn Police Department and the Southwest Missouri Drug Task Force.

Vandeman and Gonzalez are both being held in the Barry County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond each. The child was turned over to relatives.

Gonzales, along wth Nethanial B. Neal, 20, of Seligman, was arrested in Oregon on July 11 with approximately 37 pounds of marijuana. Estimated street value in that seizure was $92,000.
