Monett Middle School will hold an open house on Thursday, Aug. 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Southwest Missouri Tea Party will meet at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22 at the Shell Knob VFW Post on Highway 39. A presentation and review of current events on the state and federal level will be held.

Christ United Methodist Church will host a back-to-school neighborhood cookout from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24. Live entertainment is planned. The event is open to the public. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and an appetite.

Cox Monett Hospital will host a Live Well: Health and Safety Fair from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Monett Area YMCA. Lab screenings for ametabolic blood panel, cholesterol profile, PSA and blood glucose will be available for a charge. Children can bring a doll or stuffed animal for Dr. Stacy Harms to stitch up in the "Boo Boo" Clinic. Infant car seat safety checks, bike helmet checks and stroke risk assessments will also be offered.

Barry County Retired School Personnel will have a back to school breakfast meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23 at St John's Lutheran Church on Highway H in Monett. The program will discuss the Food for Thought backpack program, followed by a business meeting. Those attending are encouraged to bring pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.

The Purdy Renewal Project will host a discussion about the Purdy community and a vision for the next 10 years at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22 at the Purdy Community Center.

The Pierce City Senior Citizens Center will host a dance at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22. Admission is $3. The Fun Timers Band will provide music. The center is located at 104 Locust St.

The Patient and Family Advisory Council at Cox Monett provides opportunities for patients and families to take an active role in improving the overall patient experience. Cox Monett Hospital is seeking volunteer members that can commit to two years of monthly meetings to share ideas and strategies to elevate the quality of every encounter. Current or former patients, perspective patients or patient family members with a willingness to work in an advisory role are eligible to participate. The 25th annual Pierce City Car Show will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Pierce City South Park. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 1. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. to noon. Cost to enter is $15. The top 75 vehicles will receive a trophy. For more information, call Kevin Hatfield at 417-850-0940.

All branches of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2 in observance of Labor Day.
